Welcome

Croydon and Cool? Say wuuut?!
Croydon is often underestimated – but this plucky underdog is a place full of surprises for those willing to take a second look.

London’s most populated Borough is home to a vibrant community made up of unique neighbourhoods – from Coulsdon, Purley and Sanderstead in the south, to Norbury, Crystal Palace and Upper Norwood in the north. Its excellent transport connections (including the much loved tram service) mean trains that get you to Central London in 14 mins, Gatwick Airport in 15 mins and Brighton in 45 mins.

This big (Brutalist) slab of concrete (surrounded by acres of countryside) has always bred talent – nurturing top international stars on football fields at CPFC and in studios at The Brit School.

Known for being the birthplace of Dubstep, Croydon’s wider music credentials are unrivalled. The Borough boasts a roll-call of iconic artists spanning all genres – from Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Captain Sensible to Skream & Benga, Stormzy, and Raye.

A new wave of creatives, supported through the Mayor of London’s Creative Enterprise Zone, and championed during the London Borough of Culture 2023, have made Croydon their home – drawn to studios and workspaces like ASC, Conditions, Creative Digital Lab, Matthews Yard, Pirate, Stanley Arts and Turf.

Entrepreneurship and enterprise are also thriving, thanks to the likes of Start Up Croydon, Big South London and London South Bank University.

Boxpark and the wider bar and restaurant scene (celebrated at the annual Croydon Food Festival) are attracting foodies from across London, while the long-awaited “Westfield project” and wider regeneration plans are underway again.

With a record number of new developments and a growing population of residents, workers and students, Croydon is evolving and we’re here to champion all the best bits – from its fascinating history (captured beautifully in Croydonopolis) and lush green spaces, to its tasty food spots and dynamic cultural scene.

This is a Borough built on resilience, creativity and community – a place where ideas take root, and where there’s space for everyone to belong.

Whether you’re new to the area, a lifelong resident, or just curious about what’s happening this far south of the river – join us to celebrate the good, champion local and be part of Croydon’s story.
