We love a good side hustle and it’s been great to see so many Croydoners start their own over the past year. From butchers (like Meat Pac), bakers (like Cassies Cupcakery) and candlestick makers (like Nudest Collection), its been exciting to watch Croydon’s creative energy channelled into profit during such a difficult economic period.
The past year has seen a huge rise in people setting up a business, with over 21,000 new companies launched between January and March alone, an increase of 25% from the previous year. However, with high failure rates for start-up businesses, one in five will have difficulties making it past the first year.
So we were excited to learn that today saw the launch of a new ‘Business Lab’ inside IKEA Croydon which aims to offer “strategic advice and support to those newly out of work and self-employed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
The Bright Ideas Business Lab is being trialled in collaboration with The UK’s StartUp Partner, a leading company supporting young entrepreneurs to thrive in business with affordable, pay as you go advice.
The Lab will run until Sunday 13th June from 11am to 2pm in the TV Storage area of the Purley Way store. IKEA Croydon customers will be able to pre-book a free 20-minute session or drop in for advice as part of their visit to the store. Pre booked sessions can be arranged by CLICKING HERE or by contacting The UK’s StartUp Partner on 0203 865 2877.
Lee Lam, Founder of the UK’s StartUp Partner said: “Entrepreneurs are critical to rebuilding our economy and we need to do everything we can to support small businesses through these difficult times. Younger people have been particularly affected by the pandemic and at the same time we know there has been a huge trend towards home improvements. It seemed a natural fit to work with IKEA Croydon who shares our support for local communities. For those customers that are looking for support, we are pleased to be making business advice far more easily available and accessible. With the Bright Ideas Business Lab, we are hoping to reach more people early on in their business journey when getting the right information is essential for long term success.”
Gary Pearce, Store Manager at IKEA Croydon said: “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to help support our local community, which is why we’re delighted to be hosting the Bright Ideas Business Lab at the IKEA Croydon Store. We’re hoping customers will stop by and take advantage of the free advice offered by The UK’s StartUp Partner, and look forward to hearing about how this support has helped them on their new business ventures.”
