DJ Semtex launches NFT Collection with Croydon rapper

Great to hear about more Croydon creatives getting in on the NFT scene! DJ Semtex needs no introduction – but we’ll give you one anyway 😉

Having started his career in his hometown of Manchester, Croydon has been home to Sem for years. Radio DJ, club DJ, festival DJ, touring DJ, artist producer, artist mentor, acclaimed interviewer, writer – he is the scene authority and the guy all the big hitters choose to sit down with for rare and/or one-off conversations: including Kanye West, Drake, Jay-Z and Eminem.

He’s performed onstage performer with all the hip hop greats – Wu-Tang Clan, Rick Ross, Nas, Migos, Travis Scott, Skepta and Dizzee Rascal to name just a few.

And last year, he kept it local and played at Wireless in Crystal Palace 😉

He’s been an on-air trailblazer, first with his ground-breaking, 15-year-strong show on BBC 1Xtra, then with Capital Xtra.

He’s an online pioneer – chosen by Spotify to host the original Who We Be Talks_ , interviewing a wealth of talent including Giggs, Ms Banks, French Montana, Davido and Dave.

The man is also a critically acclaimed author, thanks to his memoir-cum-definitive history, ‘Hip Hop Raised Me’ (with accompanying Podcast).

Most importantly, and as quoted by Chuck D, “DJ Semtex is a generator of generations” – always pushing on with his exploration and celebration of the music and the artists he loves.

But back to the NFTs….

With all those creative and collaborative juices flowing, it’s no surprise that Sem has been swayed into the NFT space. In his own words “I don’t know everything about this space, but I do rate what musicians and digital artists are doing. It’s a fresh energy. I can see the creative freedom, and the endless possibilities than come with it”.

His Riot NFT Collection started out as an instrumental. Sem wanted to produce something that “sounded epic and that reflects the perfect chaos at a show or festival when everything is going right”. He then needed a voice that matched that energy and fate stepped in and delivered. He was sent an intro to a rapper who had a load of tracks and a voice that was “fire and brimstone in audio form”. The fact this rapper (@IamNixxsta) was from Croydon, may have swung the deal 😉

There are currently two versions priced from 0.05 ETH and 0.1 ETH respectively:
